Residency: Introduction and History
Our objective is to provide facilities for artists to easily start their projects and offer a community in which they can participate as much as they like.
As a member of ResArtis, Residency Unlimited, Alliance of Artist Communities, TransArtists and China Residencies, we are committed to the promotion of multicultural arts dialogue within an immersion setting.
Red Gate assists all participants to connect with the art scene, meet local Chinese artists and to source art materials. We provide the necessary support and encouragement to help you get the most out of your stay here. We help get you settled, show you around, tell you where to buy the best Peking Duck, which part of the Great Wall not to go to, and where and when the latest openings are. All residents are invited to Red Gate Gallery events, including private dinners after the openings.
The Red Gate community is so engaged and I formed lifelong friendships with some of the fellow residents and the other artists living in Feijiacun. It is an excellent introduction to the art community in Beijing. Red Gate Gallery is doing vital and honorable work in China connecting Chinese and international artists together and supporting the art industry. A highly recommended and very unique experience.

Application
Our program is managed on a not-for-profit basis by Red Gate Gallery. Though Red Gate covers the management and maintenance of all facilities, we are unable to cover the actual costs of renting or providing other forms of financial support, such as a stipend for living expenses, materials or airfare. As there is currently no funding available in China for initiatives like ours, participants are expected to cover the costs of living, studios, and accommodation whilst Red Gate provides all the necessary support to make your time here fruitful and enjoyable.
