About the Artist 关于艺术家
Shen Shaomin is a Chinese-Australian multimedia artist based in Shenzhen, China. Shaomin is best known for his provocative large-scale works that confront the tension between humanity, nature, and the accelerating forces of modernity. His works span multiple mediums, including video poetry, documentary, public art, and large-scale installation.
Over the past three decades, Shen has developed a distinctive visual language that merges humour and themes of existentialism. His practice frequently involves the transformation of natural, everyday materials—including straw and rice—into complex, thought-provoking forms. By reimagining what is often overlooked or discarded, Shen’s work probes ecological imbalance, consumerist culture, and the fragile relationship between human progress and the natural world.
He has exhibited solo showcases in Australia and internationally, including Art Gallery of New South Wales; Queensland Art Gallery; Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane; White Rabbit Gallery; Museum of Arts and Design, New York; M+ Art Museum, Hong Kong; Saatchi Gallery, London; Singapore Art Museum; and other international institutions.
