We are very pleased to announce that Red Gate Residency will be collaborating with Xucun Art Commune on the 2nd Heshun Country Art Festival July 19- August 10, 2013 in Shanxi province, China. Red Gate is very excited to have the opportunity to invite some of our residents back to China for this international art festival.
Xucun Art Commune is located in Heshun County, an ancient county that lies in the Taihang Mountain in northern China. The villages here preserve historical relics dated back to Ming or Qing Dynasty. Every two years, Xucun Art Commune organizes Heshun Country Art Festival when workshops, exhibitions as well as art residency program are carried out. With the aim to promote dialogue among artists from different cultural backgrounds, the art festival provides national and international artists with opportunities to create new work while engaging with the local community. Four artists shall be chosen through Red Gate Residency to participate in this year’s Heshun Country Art Festival. Artists who were accepted and completed the program fees to Red Gate Residency before March 31, 2013 are legitimate to apply. Preference will be given to artists working with painting and sculpture and to artists from the US, France or UK.
International air tickets, food and accommodation during the festival will be covered. The invited artists shall leave artworks created during the residency to the Xucun Art Commune. Artists rendering in sculpture shall donate one piece of work while artists working on painting shall donate two pieces of their creations.

On March 24th, Red Gate's residents as well as Imagine Gallery's residents and some Beijing independent artists gathered to organize an Open Studio Barbecue. Beijing early spring sun was shiny for this occasion, fourteen artists from seven different countries displayed their work to the pleasure of art professionals and visitors.
